Montana Weather Update: Mixed Conditions and Warming Trends Ahead
MONTANA — A recent system bringing a mix of snow and rain is moving out of Montana, paving the way for lighter rainfall in the northwest. Notably, the Absaroka Beartooth region has seen substantial snowfall, with accumulations reaching between one to three feet, while lower valleys received two to five inches.
As temperatures rise heading into the weekend, rain is set to increase across the state. Areas between Sheridan and Miles City may experience isolated thunderstorms. Clearing is expected in the northwest by 11 a.m., but light snow flurries could still linger between Red Lodge and Bozeman. Heavy rain, along with potential hail, is forecasted for parts of southeastern Montana and into the Dakotas.
In Billings, rainfall may exceed an inch, while Sheridan could see up to two inches. Flooding concerns are heightened due to snowmelt, with potential impacts on roadways between Billings, Livingston, and Sheridan. Additionally, gusty winds are anticipated at Fort Peck Lake and Flathead, reaching 30 to 40 mph.
Daytime temperatures will predominantly be in the 50s and 60s, with Billings slightly cooler in the 40s. A warming trend is expected in the coming week.
