Paige Lofing and Madison O’Connor of Huntley Project Forge Strong Chemistry at HIT

Havre Hosts Hi-Line Invitational: Rivals Turned Teammates Shine

HAVRE — The recent Hi-Line Invitational tournament at MSU-Northern showcased an unexpected camaraderie between two of Montana’s elite girls basketball players: Paige Lofing from Huntley Project and Madison O’Connor from Baker. The pair faced each other four times during the past season, notably in the Class B state championship game, where Lofing’s Huntley Project triumphed 65-50.

This tournament marked the third occasion that Lofing and O’Connor teamed up as members of the Class B roster. "It’s amazing," O’Connor shared. "She goes to open spots, passes well, and knows when to score or involve others. Everything about her game is great." Lofing reciprocated the admiration, praising O’Connor’s basketball IQ and her ability to find open spots on the court.

The chemistry between them continues to evolve, demonstrating their capability to play harmoniously despite their competitive high school rivalry. "Every time we play together, it’s great," O’Connor remarked. "The chemistry keeps building." Lofing added, "It’s definitely fun to play with her; she can create her own shot and distribute the ball effectively."

Though they share a strong bond on the court, both athletes acknowledge the competitive nature that underpins their rivalry during the high school season, given their frequent matchups as District 3B foes. “The competitiveness we bring towards the game is insane,” said O’Connor.

Looking ahead, Lofing has been named Montana’s player of the year and is set to play for Gonzaga University. In contrast, O’Connor has one more year with Baker but has committed to play at Montana State University, ensuring that both athletes continue to impact Montana basketball.
