Top DEA Agent Declares Montana as Fentanyl Pipeline

Montana has been a direct witness to the devastating effects of drugs like fentanyl, including addiction, overdoses, and crime. Special Agent Jonathan Pullen from the DEA’s Rocky Mountain Field Division emphasized the challenge of preventing these drugs from entering the country and the state, noting that Mexican cartels are primarily responsible for the influx of fentanyl and methamphetamine. He warned that even a small amount of fentanyl, as little as two milligrams, can be lethal.

Despite efforts to tighten border security, the supply of drugs has not decreased, with cartels making substantial profits by selling drugs at marked-up prices in the US. Carfentanil, an even more potent synthetic opioid, has also made its way into the region. Pullen expressed optimism that the steps taken by the Trump administration, such as designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, could help combat the issue. However, he acknowledged the relentless nature of the cartels and the difficult battle law enforcement faces in stopping the flow of drugs into Montana.
