Introducing Montana’s Latest “Cherry Blossom Princess” in Washington, DC

Montana is not only known for its rodeo queens and beauty queens, but also for having a “Cherry Blossom Princess” as part of its strong relationship with Japan. Madison Atkinson, a former local television personality and political worker in Montana, was recently crowned as the 2025 Montana Cherry Blossom Princess in Washington, D.C. The title is part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which celebrates the gift of 3000 Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Trees from Japan in 1912.

The Montana State Society honored Atkinson at a reception at the United States Capitol, with Senator Steve Daines, Senator Tim Sheehy, Congressman Ryan Zinke, and Congressman Troy Downing as honorary co-hosts. Atkinson, who now works as Senator Tim Sheehy’s Press Secretary, previously worked in Montana’s TV news industry before transitioning to politics.

During her time as Communication Director for the Montana Republican Party, Atkinson worked closely with Senator Sheehy’s successful U.S. Senate campaign. Her move to Washington, D.C. was a strategic career decision that allowed her to pursue her passion for politics. The photo featuring Atkinson with government officials and her parents highlights her journey from local television to national politics.

This unique title of Cherry Blossom Princess highlights the lasting friendship between Montana and Japan, symbolized by the beautiful Cherry Blossom trees that bloom in spring near the national monuments of Washington, D.C.
