Federal worker claims DOGE activity led to data breach at labor board

A cybersecurity specialist named Daniel Berulis has alleged in a whistleblower statement that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President Donald Trump caused a security breach at the National Labor Relations Board and may have illegally removed sensitive data from the board. Berulis noticed suspicious activity in the board’s computer systems shortly after DOGE staffers arrived, including changes to security protocols and the transfer of a large amount of data. He also noted an increase in attempted logins from foreign locations, including Russia. Berulis, who has almost two decades of experience and holds a Top Secret security clearance, provided evidence of the data transfer in his disclosure. The White House has defended DOGE’s work at the NLRB, stating that they have been transparent in their efforts to eliminate waste and abuse. The NLRB denied granting DOGE access to their systems and conducted an internal investigation that found no breach occurred. Despite the denial, Berulis’ lawyer has raised concerns that the alleged conduct violated federal laws designed to safeguard government data. The lawyer also reported that Berulis received a threatening note and surveillance photos near his home, possibly related to his whistleblower disclosure. It is unclear if an investigation will be launched based on Berulis’ allegations.
