Kynlea Compton, a 7-year-old, was busy serving brisket at the Exchange Club of Muskogee’s Chili & BBQ Cook-Off. The event, held at Hatbox Field, drew barbecue lovers from all over to sample a variety of dishes and raise money for children’s charities. Okie Eggers, known for slow-cooked chicken wings, brisket, and ribs, took home the Grand Champion title at the 41st annual Cook-Off. Kristi Hoos from Okie Eggers explained that they slow-cook their food in 50-gallon cans, a method that has earned them awards in the past.

Other popular booths included Ruckus Q, featuring ribs, chicken, and macaroni and cheese, which received rave reviews from Christina and Josiah Pearson. Insurance Agent Don David also impressed with his “Cajun Threauxdown” dishes, incorporating flavors from south Louisiana.

The event brought together barbecue enthusiasts who sampled a range of dishes, from baked beans to cookies and nut bars. Hoos mentioned that her husband and friends have been cooking for years and continue to perfect their recipes. Overall, the Cook-Off was a fun and delicious weekend for all attendees, with a wide variety of barbecue delights to enjoy.
