PA House Considers National Popular Vote System Bill | National News

Rep. Chris Rabb and Rep. Heather Boyd have reintroduced a bill in Pennsylvania that would move the state to a popular vote system for presidential elections. The bill, HB 270, aims to ensure that every vote counts equally and that the winner of the most individual votes becomes president. The National Popular Vote movement, which seeks to enforce the “one person, one vote” principle of American democracy, already includes 18 states and the District of Columbia. If Pennsylvania joins, it would add an additional 19 electoral votes to the coalition. The system would only take effect if states with 270 electoral votes have joined. The movement was launched in response to five instances in U.S. history where the winner of the electoral college received fewer total votes than their opponents. Rep. Rabb emphasized that every voter of every party should have an equal voice in presidential elections, and that it is time for Pennsylvania to ensure that every vote counts equally. By joining the National Popular Vote movement, Pennsylvania could help to strengthen American democracy and uphold the principle of one person, one vote.
