In late February, Kristina Gibson received a shocking phone call informing her that her stepdaughter, Taylor Gibson, had been kidnapped while on vacation in Costa Rica. Taylor, who had been left alone for a day and was drugged, kidnapped, and sexually assaulted, was eventually found and brought back to the United States. However, her trauma was not being adequately addressed in Montana. Despite seeking out-of-state trauma care in California, her insurance company denied coverage for the treatment.
Taylor’s struggle to find adequate mental health support in Montana is a common issue faced by many patients, as highlighted by Kristina, who works at Billings Clinic. The community has come together to support Taylor, raising funds to offset the cost of her treatment.
Upcoming fundraising events have been planned to help Taylor in her recovery journey. Through community support and empowerment, Taylor is hopeful for her future as she works to rebuild her life after the traumatic experience in Costa Rica.
