Former Montana State University Bobcat and current Atlanta Falcons linebacker Troy Andersen recently visited Bozeman and Gallatin High Schools to educate students on seatbelt safety and safe driving practices. The initiative, known as Buckle Up Blue for Lauryn, is in honor of Lauryn Goldhahn, a 15-year-old girl from Fairfield, Montana, who tragically lost her life in a car accident in 2016 due to not wearing a seatbelt. During the event, Lauryn’s father, Pat Goldhahn, shared his emotional experiences and emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts.
Andersen, who has partnered with MDT’s Engage program to promote safe driving, highlighted the alarming statistics of car crash fatalities in Montana, with a significant number of victims not wearing seatbelts. He urged young people to drive safely and be vigilant behind the wheel.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that out of 1,400 car occupants killed in crashes in Montana from 2013 to 2022, 936 were not wearing seatbelts. Andersen stressed the importance of buckling up, emphasizing that it is a simple action that can save lives. To learn more about the Buckle Up Blue for Lauryn campaign, visit their Facebook page.
