Former Montana Governor Steve Bullock, known for his work on campaign finance reform, will be addressing the Class of 2025 at Columbia Law School’s graduation ceremony on May 18. During his time as governor, Bullock worked with a Republican-led legislature to make improvements in health care, education, infrastructure, and the economy. He also championed campaign finance laws, requiring more transparency from political action committees and corporations.
Before his governorship, Bullock served as Montana’s attorney general, where he gained national recognition for challenging the Citizens United decision on corporate campaign spending. Since leaving office, he has been involved in overseeing opioid settlements and serving on various boards and advisory committees.
Bullock, a graduate of Claremont McKenna College, has a background in law and has frequently returned to Columbia Law to speak to students and alumni. Some of his previous topics have included climate change and the impact of public interest programs on his own career. The graduation ceremony will also feature other distinguished speakers, including faculty members and student speakers.
