Many parts of the U.S. still facing frigid temperatures and flooding as significant issues

Frigid temperatures are still affecting 55 million people in parts of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast with frost and freeze alerts in place. Temperatures are 10 to 25 degrees below average and are expected to remain chilly over the next few days east of the Mississippi River. The National Weather Service is warning of cold weather precautions, especially in areas impacted by recent storms. In New York, temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s but will feel much colder due to the wind. Atlanta is also preparing for freezing temperatures on Tuesday evening. Flooding remains a concern following last week’s destructive storms, with at least 20 river locations in major flood stages. Louisville, Kentucky, is experiencing one of the top 10 flooding events in history, with the Ohio River expected to crest at 37 feet on Wednesday. The rest of the country can expect scattered showers, thunderstorms, and light snow, with New England and Florida experiencing these weather patterns on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Northeast and Tennessee Valley will see more showers and storms. Overall, the impact of the weather outside of river flooding is expected to be relatively low.
