Missoula native Jesse Schmidt has been recommended as the new head football coach at Belgrade High School pending school board approval. With 12 years of coaching experience, Schmidt played college football and baseball at Trinity Bible College in North Dakota. He most recently served as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach at Evangel University in Missouri, where the team had successful seasons. Schmidt previously coached at Hardin High School, leading the program to their first win in four years. He will also teach at Belgrade High School.
Schmidt is taking over from Jeremy Curry, who resigned voluntarily after an incident with a player last season. Belgrade High School had a disappointing 1-8 record last season, and the Panthers have only won four games since moving to Class AA in 2019. The announcement of Schmidt’s recommendation as head coach brings hope for a turnaround in the football program.
Belgrade High School is excited about the potential impact Schmidt can have on the team and is looking forward to what he can bring to the program. The school board will need to approve his appointment before it becomes official. With his experience and background in coaching, there is optimism for a brighter future for the Belgrade Panthers under Schmidt’s leadership.
