Former Montana State offensive lineman Lewis Kidd has announced his retirement from football after a successful career in the NFL. Kidd, who played for the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, and San Francisco 49ers, earned multiple All-America and All-Big Sky Conference honors during his time at MSU.
After a six-year career with the Bobcats, Kidd signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022, made the 53-man roster, and started a game that fall. However, he was waived by the Saints the following year and went on to have stints with the Colts and 49ers before ultimately deciding to retire.
Despite facing challenges in the NFL, Kidd leaves the game with a sense of peace and gratitude for the opportunities he had. He has since taken on a role as the director of football operations at Training Haus in Minnesota, where he plans to work with high school offensive and defensive line players.
Reflecting on his decision to retire, Kidd expressed his love for the game but acknowledged that his body was telling him it was time to hang up his cleats. He also highlighted the camaraderie and relationships he built during his time at Montana State, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and shared experiences in football.
Kidd’s former MSU teammates, including Troy Andersen, Daniel Hardy, Lance McCutcheon, Ty Okada, and Alex Singleton, continue to play in the NFL, with Kidd expressing his admiration and support for their careers. As he transitions into a new chapter post-football, Kidd looks forward to giving back to the next generation of players and helping them develop useful skills for the game.
