Texas district attorney’s decision leads to release of Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy

Xavier Worthy, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was released after charges of felony domestic violence were dropped by the district attorney in Texas. Worthy had been accused of assault on a family member by impeding their breathing, but the case was declined after witnesses were interviewed and information was gathered. Worthy’s lawyers stated that the allegation came from a female living in his home who had been asked to leave due to infidelity issues. They claimed she had made extortion attempts before making the baseless allegation against Worthy and had caused damage to his property. Despite the allegations, Worthy did not want to press charges against her.

Worthy was a standout player for the Chiefs, setting records for speed and making significant contributions on the field. He became a key player for the team during their pursuit of a Super Bowl title. However, his teammate Rashee Rice, who was also a promising player, faced legal troubles after a car crash in 2024 for which he admitted responsibility. Rice is currently facing both civil lawsuits and criminal charges related to the crash. Despite these challenges, the Chiefs continued to support their players and gathered information on the situations involving both Worthy and Rice.
