Mikaela Shiffrin achieves World Cup podium record with 3rd place finish in slalom race

Mikaela Shiffrin set a new record with her 156th podium finish in the World Cup, finishing third in a slalom race in Sweden. Despite falling short of victory, Shiffrin was pleased with her performance given that it was only her fifth slalom race since a serious crash in November. The race was won by Katharina Truppe, who secured her first career World Cup victory at age 29. This victory marked Truppe’s 181st World Cup start, and she expressed her disbelief and joy at the achievement. Shiffrin needed a win to stay in contention for a ninth career season-long slalom title but plans to keep practicing to improve her performance. With Olympic champion Petra Vlhova out due to injury, there is an opportunity for a new World Cup title winner. The season-ending last slalom will take place in Sun Valley, Idaho, and several skiers are within reach of the crystal globe trophy. Despite the challenges of travel, Shiffrin is looking forward to the final race of the season. Contenders for the slalom title include Zrinka Ljutic and Camille Rast, with Ljutic currently leading the standings. Shiffrin plans to continue training in Europe before the race in Idaho and remains optimistic about her prospects.
