Woman from South Carolina taken into custody for involvement in Myrtle Beach forest fire

Alexandra Bialousow, a woman from Myrtle Beach, has been arrested and charged for allegedly starting a wildfire in South Carolina that burned over 2,000 acres and threatened the lives and homes of hundreds. Witnesses reported seeing her start a fire in a backyard fire pit without proper precautions, leading to the fire spreading to land owned by a homeowners association. The fire, known as the Covington Drive Fire, is still active but 55% contained as of Saturday afternoon.

Abnormally dry conditions have fueled over 175 wildfires across the state, prompting evacuations and a state of emergency declared by Governor Henry McMaster. Bialousow faces charges of negligently allowing fire to spread and starting a fire without precautions, with each charge carrying a possible sentence of up to 30 days imprisonment or fines.

The governor’s office and police department have not commented on Bialousow’s arrest. She is scheduled to appear in court in April. No major injuries have been reported from the wildfires, but the burning ban remains in effect statewide. The governor warned that violators of the ban will be subject to criminal prosecution.
