Group advocating for the return of men’s soccer at MSU Billings

A group advocating for the reinstatement of the men’s soccer program at Montana State University Billings has announced that they have received pledges totaling $200,000 towards their goal. The program was discontinued in November 2024, citing financial reasons. The group, known as the MSUB Men’s Soccer Action Group, sees the pledged donations as a positive step in their efforts to bring back men’s soccer.

In an interview, a member of the group mentioned a timeline that includes raising an additional $860,000 by January 2026, on top of the initial $200,000. They are hopeful that reaching the $200,000 milestone will lead to the resurrection of men’s soccer in time for a 2025 season. However, MSUB school officials have not made any commitments towards reinstating soccer or having a season this fall.

The former MSUB men’s soccer coach, who is part of the advocacy group, mentioned that if the program is reinstated, the 2025 season might involve nonconference games against local NAIA teams due to recruitment and scheduling constraints. Despite the uncertainty, the group remains optimistic about the future of men’s soccer at MSUB.

While the university has not made any definitive statements regarding the reinstatement of the program, they have expressed appreciation for the community’s support and the efforts of the alumni group. In the meantime, MSUB is focusing on their other athletic programs, including basketball, softball, and baseball.
