Montana State veterans Katelynn “KJ” Martin and Esmeralda Morales led the MSU women’s basketball team to a 67-54 victory over Idaho, securing the Bobcats’ first outright regular season Big Sky Conference title since 2019-20. The win was fueled by a strong third quarter performance, with Martin scoring 18 points and Morales adding 15. The victory also extended Montana State’s road winning streak to 11 games, the longest in the nation at the NCAA Division I level.
Head coach Tricia Binford praised her team for getting back to their championship habits after a recent loss, emphasizing the players’ response and determination. Martin’s standout performance, along with contributions from Morales and Natalie Picton, propelled the Bobcats to victory. Freshman Taylee Chirrick also made significant contributions with eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
The team’s focus now shifts to the upcoming Big Sky tournament, which kicks off Saturday at Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho. Montana State will play their first game on Sunday against the winner of the first-round match between Portland State and Northern Colorado. Despite facing a tough road ahead, the Bobcats are motivated to continue their winning ways and showcase their championship qualities on the court.
