The University of Montana athletic department has announced the 2024 class of the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame and this year’s recipient of the Grizzly Lifetime Honors Award. The class includes All-American safety Colt Anderson, All-Big Sky receiver Scott Gurnsey, All-American offensive lineman Dylan McFarland, and Lady Griz guard Kelly (Pilcher) Beattie. President George Dennison will receive the Lifetime Honors Award posthumously for his support of Grizzly Athletics.
The inductees will be celebrated at a banquet in October, with the induction ceremony taking place on the University of Montana campus. The Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1993 to honor those who have made significant contributions to UM Athletics, while the Lifetime Honors Award recognizes supporters of Grizzly Athletics.
Colt Anderson, from Butte, was a standout safety who also excelled in the classroom and went on to play in the NFL. Kelly (Pilcher) Beattie, a Missoula native, helped lead the Lady Griz to NCAA tournament success during her time at Montana. Scott Gurnsey, from Tumwater, Washington, was a prolific receiver and longtime radio analyst for the Grizzlies. Dylan McFarland, a Kalispell native, was a key offensive lineman for the Griz and also excelled academically.
The contributions of George Dennison, the longest-serving UM president, were instrumental in the growth and success of Grizzly Athletics during his tenure. His leadership saw a period of expansion and success for the university and its athletic programs.
