First Finals Buckle Wrangled by Ty Erickson with Helena


Ty Erickson from Helena finally had a breakthrough at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, winning his first go-round in steer wrestling with a time of 3.6 seconds. This victory earned him a check of $33,687. Meanwhile, other Montana competitors like Haven Meged, Lisa Lockhart, and Sage Newman also had successful rounds, with Meged winning his fourth consecutive check in tie-down roping.

Rookie bareback rider Weston Timberman faced some challenges but ultimately scored 84.5 points on his final attempt to earn a sixth-place finish and a $5,433 check. In other events, Richmond Champion, Chase Dougherty, and Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nunes Nogueira also competed in their respective categories.

The National Finals Rodeo will continue with Round 9 on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, with the 10th and final round scheduled for Saturday.
