Montana State athlete Shelby Schweyen named Athlete of the Week

Montana State University’s Shelby Schweyen was named the Big Sky Conference indoor track and field women’s field athlete of the week after setting new conference and school records in the pentathlon. Schweyen, a graduate student from Missoula, achieved personal bests in all five events of the pentathlon at the Bobcat Performance meet in Bozeman. Her total points of 4,183 surpassed the previous Big Sky and MSU records, as well as the facility record at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Schweyen’s impressive performance also ranks her ninth in the NCAA Division I for pentathlon scores this season.

Starting with a strong 60-meter hurdles time, Schweyen continued to excel in the high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800 meters, setting new personal records in each event. Her accomplishments include the third-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in MSU history, a tie for fifth in high jump program history, a shot put win, a long jump win with a career-best leap, and a strong finish in the 800 meters.

Schweyen, the 2024 Big Sky indoor pentathlon champion and outdoor heptathlon silver medalist, demonstrated her talent and determination at the Bobcat Performance meet. Her record-breaking performance has solidified her position as a top athlete in the Big Sky Conference and NCAA Division I track and field.
