Missouri River Drug Task Force discusses influx of drugs from Canada into Montana

President Trump has proposed tariffs on goods imported from Mexico, China, and Canada in an effort to address the threat posed by illegal immigrants and drugs, specifically deadly Fentanyl. The tariffs on Canada have been postponed for 30 days and include a 10% tariff on energy and a 25% tariff on other imported goods. The White House memo claims that Mexican cartels are operating Fentanyl labs in Canada, leading to an increased presence of the drug in the country. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disputes these claims, stating that less than 1% of Fentanyl and illegal crossings into the US come from Canada.

Despite the focus on Canadian drug trafficking, the Missouri River Drug Task Force in Montana has not observed a significant amount of drugs coming from Canada recently. Instead, they are seeing an increase in drug activity from the southern border. Captain Nate Kamerman of the MRDTF highlights the growing issue of Fentanyl and other drugs in the region and emphasizes the importance of preventing overdoses. The impact of tariffs on Canada and the drug trade remains uncertain, but efforts to combat drug trafficking continue in Montana.
