The Whitefish City Council is set to vote on accepting additional parkland along the Whitefish River next to Roundhouse Landing Park. The park space extension is part of an amendment to the lease agreement with BNSF Railway. The nearly 2-acre property, formerly owned by the Kusumoto family, will be used for public recreation as a picnic area and landing for canoes and kayaks, with a sign or bench reading Ted Kusumoto Park in honor of the family’s long ownership. Additionally, the Council will discuss a potential contract with the proposed Star Meadow Fire District to provide fire service to the Homestead development area north of Whitefish. The Fire Department is seeking Council’s direction on the potential contract. The work session will also include a review of the city’s ethics and social media policies. The meeting will take place at City Hall at 7:10 p.m., following a work session at 5:15 p.m. for further discussion on the proposed items.
