Missoula Sentinel pipeline contributes to Montana State’s journey to FCS national title game

Montana State’s journey to the FCS national championship has been fueled by Treasure State natives like Rylan Ortt, Adam Jones, and Zac Crews, who all chose to become Bobcats over the hometown Montana Grizzlies. Ortt, a standout at Missoula Sentinel, transitioned from quarterback to safety and has emerged as a defensive leader with 75 total tackles this season. Jones, a freshman, has had a breakout season on offense, rushing for 1,134 yards and 14 touchdowns, becoming the most prolific freshman runner in program history. Crews, along with Dylan Rollins and J.J. Dolan, also contributed to Sentinel’s state championships in 2020 and 2021 before joining MSU.

These players are now part of an MSU program aiming to win its first national championship since 1984. Coach Dane Oliver, a former Grizzlies player, has seen these players grow and succeed, both on and off the field. The team, with a perfect 15-0 record, will face North Dakota State in the FCS national championship on January 6. As these homegrown talents showcase their skills on a national stage, their success is a source of pride for Sentinel and the state of Montana. Their journey from high school champions to college stars exemplifies the talent and determination found in Treasure State athletes.
