Road conditions are deteriorating across Western Montana with ice and snow accumulating on highways. The Missoula Police Department recommends limiting travel to essential trips only due to extremely dangerous roads and multiple accidents. The East Missoula Rural Fire Department also advises cautious driving for those who must travel. The Montana Department of Transportation’s road condition map shows scattered ice, frost, snow, and black ice on Interstate 90 from the Idaho border to Deer Lodge. Chains were required for Lookout Pass, and other highways like Highway 200 and Highway 2 also had snow and ice reports. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Saturday evening with power outages and tree damage possible. Lolo Pass could receive six to 10 inches of snow. Travelers are advised to check Montana’s road conditions before heading out. For a full weather forecast from the STORMTracker Weather Team, visit MDT’s road map.
