St. Ignatius, Montana – Thomas James Keast, a beloved member of the community, passed away at the age of 86 on December 30, 2024, due to natural causes. Born in Marquette in 1938, Tom attended Northern Michigan University and Wayne State University, where he pursued a career in social work. He joined the U.S. Public Health Service in 1962 and served in various capacities, making a significant impact on the Native American tribes he worked with.
Tom was also a talented musician, playing drums in the Bob Keast Trio in the 1950s. He had a passion for Lake Superior history and curated the John Keast Maritime collection, showcasing his dedication to preserving regional history.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom was a loving husband and father. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Louise Langevin, and four children. His legacy as a dedicated public health servant and a passionate historian will be remembered by all who knew him.
