Telefónica Tech and IBM Collaborate on Quantum-Safe Cybersecurity Solutions
Telefónica Tech, the digital business unit of Spanish telecommunications group Telefónica, has partnered with IBM to integrate quantum-safe technology into its cybersecurity services. The goal is to address the security risks posed by future quantum computers. The collaboration includes deploying IBM’s quantum-safe technology infrastructure at Telefónica Tech’s headquarters in Madrid.
IBM has developed quantum-safe enterprise software and research-driven assets to provide solutions for anticipated quantum risks. The partnership aims to create specific cybersecurity solutions that protect organizations from potential vulnerabilities in a post-quantum world. The two companies will work together to combine IBM’s quantum-safe technology with Telefónica Tech’s expertise in managed and professional cybersecurity services.
The collaboration will focus on implementing new quantum-safe cryptography standards defined by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). By leveraging IBM’s quantum-safe technologies, Telefónica Tech aims to help organizations protect critical data from being decrypted by quantum computers.
Raquel Ruiz Lozano, Global Head of Strategic Partnerships for Telefónica Tech, emphasized the importance of addressing cybersecurity challenges posed by quantum computing. Adolfo Hernández Pulido, Technology Managing Director for Telefónica at IBM, highlighted the need for organizations to transition to quantum-safe standards. The collaboration also includes the creation of a joint use case office to focus on areas such as communications encryption and the protection of critical environments.
The integration of IBM’s quantum-safe technologies into Telefónica Tech’s services will enhance proactive risk assessments and help organizations identify and address cryptography vulnerabilities. The partnership aims to ensure resilience and agility against cybersecurity risks posed by quantum computing. IBM’s infrastructure has already been deployed at Telefónica’s headquarters in Madrid to promote secure and resilient business development in the post-quantum world.
