The City of Missoula has received approval to purchase 0.55 acres of land from the Resurrection Cemetery Association, to create a new city park and mixed-use redevelopment in the Northside neighborhood. The final piece of this project was approved during a city council meeting, completing the connection to over 5 acres of land intended for the new park and redevelopment. Importantly, this project will not involve the removal of tombstones or graves, as the land is currently unused surplus land owned by the cemetery association. Annie Gorski, Deputy Director of the Missoula Redevelopment Agency, clarified that this purchase does not involve acquiring the cemetery itself, but rather unused land that the association does not intend to use in the future. As of now, no developers have been identified for the park or redevelopment plans. The city has only secured approval to purchase the land from the Resurrection Cemetery Association. This project represents an exciting opportunity for the city to create a new public space and enhance the Northside neighborhood.
