In a hard-fought battle at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, Tennessee State fell to Montana 41-27 in the first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs. Despite the loss, Tennessee State put up a strong fight, with Draylen Ellis leading the passing attack with 296 yards and two touchdowns. CJ Evans and Jaden McGill contributed to the rushing game, each picking up 26 yards. Karate Brenson stood out with 11 catches for 122 yards and two scores. The defense was led by Sanders Ellis with 10 tackles, 3.0 TFL, one sack, and two recovered fumbles.
Even though Tennessee State forced three turnovers in the game, it wasn’t enough to overcome Montana’s offensive prowess. The Grizzlies outgained Tennessee State 369-277 and Eli Gillman led the rushing attack with 136 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the loss, Tennessee State put up a valiant effort and showed resilience throughout the game.
