SunFed Produce has issued a recall of cucumbers in 26 states, including Montana, due to possible salmonella contamination linked to an ongoing illness outbreak. The cucumbers were sold between October 12, 2024, and November 26, 2024, and carry a “SunFed Mexico” sticker. So far, 16 cases of illness have been reported in Montana. Consumers are advised to discard or return the affected cucumbers and thoroughly wash any items or surfaces that may have come into contact with them. Salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, typically appearing within six hours to six days and lasting for four to seven days. In rare cases, salmonella can lead to more severe illnesses if it enters the bloodstream. Consumers in Montana are urged to check their cucumbers for the specified sticker and take precautions to avoid illness.
