After 35 years of exemplary leadership, Laura Millin, Executive Director of the Missoula Art Museum (MAM), has announced her retirement, planned for June 2025. Millin has been credited with expanding MAM’s collection, prioritizing Indigenous artists, and fostering partnerships with nonprofits across the state during her tenure. Under her guidance, MAM underwent a $6 million renovation, increased its endowment, and focused on creating accessible educational programming for all.
As MAM approaches its 50th anniversary, the Board of Directors is currently in the process of searching for a new Executive Director to continue Millin’s legacy. The Board has launched “Laura’s Legacy Fund” to aid in this transition and maintain the museum’s foundation. The search committee is seeking a dynamic leader who will guide MAM into its next phase of growth and transformation.
MAM, founded in 1975 and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is a vital cultural hub in Missoula’s historic downtown. The museum is devoted to representing contemporary Indigenous art and acknowledges the ongoing sovereignty of the Séli and Ql̓ispé Tribal people. Millin’s departure will be a significant loss, but the museum is well-positioned to continue thriving under new leadership.
