Charles Kushner chosen by Trump as ambassador to France

President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who would represent the country’s interests. He also congratulated Charles, his wife, their children, and grandchildren.

Trump also mentioned Jared Kushner’s work in his first administration, including Opertation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords. The president-elect expressed his intention to strengthen America’s partnership with France, the country’s oldest ally.

Charles Kushner had previously served prison time in 2005 after pleading guilty to various charges like tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became the governor of New Jersey. Christie called the Kushner case “loathsome” and “disgusting”, but in 2020, Trump pardoned Charles Kushner along with other individuals before leaving office.

The relationship between Trump and Christie has been strained, as Christie ran against Trump in the 2016 and 2024 Republican primaries. Overall, the nomination of Charles Kushner as ambassador to France comes with a history of legal troubles, political conflicts, and family ties within the Trump administration.
