Montana State women’s basketball team secured a 76-68 victory over UCF at the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic, marking their second consecutive win with a quick start and double-digit lead. Head coach Tricia Binford praised her team’s effort in playing up-tempo and spreading the court against a challenging opponent like UCF. Katelynn Martin scored her 1,000th career point during the game.
Montana State’s bench players were instrumental in maintaining their lead throughout the game, outscoring UCF’s bench 21-5 in the first half. Despite UCF’s late-game charge, MSU managed to secure the win with a strong performance at the free-throw line and on the boards. Marah Dykstra led the team with 21 points, followed by Esmeralda Morales, Taylee Chirrick, Martin, and Natalie Picton in double figures.
The victory over UCF was MSU’s first win against a Power-4 school since 2012. The Bobcats will face South Dakota in their next game as part of the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge.
