Montana State redshirt freshman running back Adam Jones has been named the 2024 Big Sky Conference freshman of the year, making him the first Bobcat to earn the honor since 2017. Jones also received an All-Big Sky honorable mention and is a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award for FCS freshman of the year. In 11 games, he has rushed for 928 yards and nine touchdowns, with an impressive 7.4 yards per carry, and caught 14 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown. His standout performance against rival Montana earned him the Big Sky player of the week and FCS freshman of the week awards.
In addition to Jones’ recognition, MSU quarterback Tommy Mellott was named the Big Sky offensive player of the year, defensive end Brody Grebe earned the defensive player of the year award, and head coach Brent Vigen received the conference coach of the year honor. The Big Sky newcomer of the year accolade went to Northern Arizona QB Ty Pennington. The awards were voted on by the Big Sky’s 12 head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for members of their own teams.
This season, Jones has made a significant impact for the Bobcats, helping them achieve a 12-0 record, the outright Big Sky championship, and the No. 1 seed in the FCS playoffs. His performance on the field has solidified his reputation as a rising star in college football.
