Sam Benastick, a 20-year-old man from Kamloops, Canada, was found safe after being reported missing for more than five weeks during a camping trip in the Northern Rockies. He was flagged down by two individuals at Redfern Lake trail and taken to a hospital for evaluation. Benastick had camped in various locations before being found.
He had set up a campsite in a dry creek bed after camping in his car and on a mountainside. Kamloops Search and Rescue, along with other teams and volunteers, participated in the search efforts. Benastick had last checked in with his family on October 8 before being reported missing on October 19.
Authorities praised the efforts of all involved in locating Benastick, who was found alive despite fears of a different outcome due to the length of time he had been missing. Redfern-Keily Park, where Benastick was found, is located north of Vancouver and Kamloops in British Columbia.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of camping in remote wilderness areas, as well as the importance of proper preparation and communication while venturing into the outdoors. The successful outcome of the search for Benastick is seen as a positive result after weeks of uncertainty and concern for his well-being.
