In a recent meeting, the Montana High School Association executive board made several decisions regarding realignment in high school sports. Broadus, Hays-Lodgepole, Harlowton-Ryegate, and Deer Lodge will all be moving classifications in football. Several schools will also be placed in higher football classifications, giving them the option to participate fully in the higher classification or opt for the lower classification without postseason eligibility. Whitehall-Harrison is moving conferences in Class B football, and a four-division alignment was approved for Class A football. Additionally, proposals for Class C basketball, track and field, and volleyball were approved, with districts to be finalized in 2025. The board also submitted proposals for consideration at the annual meeting and approved the 2026-27 calendar. Other decisions made by the board included approval of baseball conferences for the 2025 season, Class B golf qualifying criteria changes, and a trophy for Class C girls divisional wrestling. Changes in football realignment procedures were also approved, allowing impacted divisions to present conference alignments for appeal. The MHSA office in Helena will be relocating to a new site to better host meetings and ensure ADA compliance. Finalization of these decisions will take place at the January 2025 board meeting.
