A Laurel police officer was forced to fatally shoot a K-9 police dog belonging to the Montana Highway Patrol after it attacked a man on Thursday, November 28, 2024. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Wyoming Avenue, where the officer attempted multiple non-lethal methods to stop the attack with assistance from the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department’s Chief. However, the officer had to use his firearm to stop the attack, resulting in the death of the dog. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by the Laurel Ambulance Service.
The Montana Highway Patrol provided a statement expressing concern for the victim and his family, wishing him a speedy recovery.
