Laurel Police Department looking into assault by Montana Highway Patrol’s K9 unit | Billings News

A tragic incident occurred in Laurel, Mont. when a dog attack resulted in the death of a Montana Highway Patrol K-9. Chief Stanley Langve of the Laurel Police Department reported that the attack took place on Wyoming Avenue and was in progress when the authorities were alerted. Despite attempts to stop the attack using non-lethal methods and a catch pole, the officer on the scene was forced to fatally shoot the Belgian Malinois after 15 minutes. The victim, an adult male, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The dog was identified as a Montana Highway Patrol K-9, and Sergeant Jackson Booth, the K-9 handler, has been called in to assist with the investigation.
