Alabama A&M football player Medrick Burnett Jr. tragically passed away at the age of 20 after suffering a head injury during a game against Alabama State on October 26. Burnett, a redshirt freshman linebacker, had transferred to Alabama A&M from Grambling and played in seven games this season. His best performance came on September 21 when he recorded three tackles against Austin Peay.
Alabama A&M Director of Athletics Paul Bryant expressed the school’s sorrow, describing Burnett as a remarkable young man with a positive energy and leadership qualities that had a profound impact on those around him. Burnett’s high school, Mayfair High School in California, also offered their condolences to his family and teammates during this difficult time.
Alabama A&M, which has a 6-5 overall record and 4-3 in the SWAC, has one more game left this season against Florida A&M. The tragic loss of Burnett has left the Bulldog family devastated, and they continue to honor his memory on and off the field. The school’s community is standing in solidarity with Burnett’s loved ones as they mourn the loss of a beloved player and friend.
