Eureka, Montana, November 26, 2019 – Eureka Public School District #13 has announced that school buses will not be running today due to unsafe travel conditions. After attempting to drive several routes and finding them impassable, the district made the decision to cancel bus service for the day. Despite the bus cancellations, schools will remain open and families are encouraged to attend if they can do so safely. Those unable to reach the school are advised to call in the morning to excuse their child.
Additionally, the area is experiencing power outages due to snowy and icy conditions. Lincoln Electric Cooperative, Inc. reported challenges in restoring power due to the number of fallen trees on power lines. Wet snow and ice buildup is causing tree branches to bend into power lines, leading to faults. Snow buildup on power lines is also causing challenges when it falls off, causing the lines to slap together and trigger faults. The cooperative is working to safely restore power as quickly as possible.
The district hopes that travel conditions will improve by next week after the Thanksgiving break. Be safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
