Honoring a Legend: Darryl Dupuis Receives Induction into Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame

Darryl Dupuis, a revered football player, coach, and mentor, has been nominated for the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame by two champion wrestlers. At 90 years old, Dupuis, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, has impacted the lives of many through his coaching and teaching career.

Wes Knudsen, one of the wrestlers who nominated Dupuis, credits his success in wrestling, education, and career to the guidance and encouragement he received from Dupuis during his time in high school. Dupuis, who also received valuable advice from his high school coach, has had a successful athletic and professional career, including playing football for the University of Montana and leading the Bobcats to victory over the Grizzlies.

Throughout his coaching career in Polson, Dupuis achieved remarkable success in football, track, and wrestling, leading his teams to state victories and earning numerous Coach of the Year awards. He also played a crucial role in the establishment of Salish Kootenai College and served on the CSKT Tribal Council.

Despite retiring from his roles in education and administration, Dupuis remains an active member of his community and continues to support Native American students and athletes. His dedication to helping others succeed, regardless of background, has left a lasting impact on many lives. The 10th annual induction ceremony for the Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame will honor Dupuis and other inductees on November 23 in Helena.
