President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Russell Vought, a co-author of Project 2025, to lead the Office of Management and Budget. In his announcement, Trump praised Vought as an expert in cutting costs and deregulating government, essential for implementing the America First Agenda. Vought has been nominated previously and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the American people.
In his Project 2025 chapter, Vought emphasized the importance of setting fiscal goals early in the budget development process to address federal government fiscal irresponsibility. He believes the president’s budget is a powerful tool for enforcing public policy at federal agencies. During an interview, Vought advocated for Trump taking greater control over government agencies to combat woke and weaponized bureaucracy.
Although Trump distanced himself from Project 2025 during his campaign, many individuals associated with the initiative have been chosen for roles within the incoming administration, including border czar, FCC chairman, and CIA director. Vought, if confirmed by the Senate, will oversee budgeting and policy execution across executive departments and agencies.
Trump also announced other key Cabinet picks, including Scott Turner as housing and urban development secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer as labor secretary, and Marty Makary as FDA commissioner. Additionally, Sebastian Gorka, a former aide, was appointed as deputy assistant and senior director for counterterrorism. Trump praised Vought as a transformative pick for the budget office, known for developing plans to dismantle the deep state.
