Bozeman’s Brawl of the Wild Brings Tailgaters Together for a Spirited Tradition
BOZEMAN, Mont. – As the highly anticipated Brawl of the Wild approaches, tailgaters in Bozeman are preparing for an early and festive morning. For many, this event transcends a simple gathering, evolving into a well-orchestrated celebration. David Weaver, a veteran tailgater associated with Montana State University (MSU), detailed their plans: "We’ll be there at 7:30, trying to get in, and by 8:00, we’ll be setting up and getting ready to rock." Since 2008, this group has celebrated the rivalry in style, transforming what began as a laid-back gathering into a significant affair.
In collaboration with Last Best Place Brewing Company, the tailgating crew now boasts a full bar and ample beer selection, and has added food to their offerings. Their commitment to inclusivity stands out—fans from opposing teams are welcomed to join the festivities, ensuring that all attendees enjoy their time in Bozeman.
Over the years, the tailgate has grown so popular that restocking trips back to the brewery have become routine, with the team efficiently operating four taps at a time. The tradition is also becoming a family affair, as some of the tailgaters’ older kids assist in setting up and taking down the tent. "We’re building a tradition for the next generation; they love coming to it," said Weaver.
As the Brawl of the Wild nears, excitement builds in Bozeman, where tailgating is more than just pre-game fun—it’s a cherished community tradition that continues to grow year after year.
