The University of Montana has recently been honored with a gold-level Bicycle Friendly University distinction from the League of American Bicyclists for its efforts in promoting safe and accessible biking on campus. This award comes after a previous recognition in 2013 and highlights the university’s commitment to sustainable transportation options. The Associated Students of the University of Montana Bike Program has expanded its services, offering bike tune-ups, access to student mechanics, and affordable equipment to encourage biking as a viable transportation choice for students and staff.
Vickie Rectenwald, the director of ASUM Transportation, expressed excitement for the program’s growth and future improvements. The League of American Bicyclists commended UM for prioritizing biking and creating a more sustainable campus environment. By making biking easier and safer, universities like UM are empowering their community to make healthier and environmentally conscious choices.
As UM continues to enhance its bike accessibility, it will receive support from the League of American Bicyclists to further promote biking on campus. This recognition reflects the university’s dedication to promoting sustainable transportation options and creating a more bike-friendly environment.
