Montana Tech volleyball player, Rhys Layton, has been named the national setter of the week by the NAIA. Layton, a sophomore for the Orediggers, had an outstanding week, contributing to her team’s victories with 114 assists, 19 digs, seven kills, and six blocks. She also received the weekly setter award from the Frontier Conference.
In a recent match against MSU-Northern, Layton recorded a career-high 62 assists along with 11 digs, showcasing her skills as a versatile player. She followed up this performance with 52 assists and eight digs in another win against No. 13 Providence, surpassing the 1,000-assist mark for the season.
Currently leading the Frontier Conference in assists with 1,041, Layton is also ranked second in the league with an average of 10.96 assists per set. Her remarkable contributions on the court have earned her national recognition and praise from the NAIA.
Joining Layton in receiving weekly honors are Montana Western’s Jazi Smith for attacker of the week and Bethel’s Darla Crow for defender of the week. Montana Tech will face off against archrival Carroll College in their upcoming Frontier Conference match.
Fans can catch Layton and the Orediggers in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they aim to continue their success in conference play.
