Two blue-throated macaws, Lily and Margot, who escaped from London Zoo, were found 60 miles away in Buckden, Cambridgeshire, after being missing for six days. The birds had flown away during their daily free flying routine but were luckily spotted by a family in their garden. They were eventually captured in a field and public footpath in Brampton and returned to the zoo. Lily and Margot are said to be in good condition and are now in quarantine at the on-site animal hospital before rejoining their parents, Popeye and Ollie.
The incident caused concern for the safety of the parrots, as they faced potential dangers while out in the wild. Thanks to the quick actions of the family who spotted them and the expertise of the zoo’s staff, the birds were successfully rescued and are expected to make a full recovery. The escape and subsequent capture of Lily and Margot has served as a reminder of the importance of proper care and attention for animals in captivity. London Zoo has reassured the public that they have strict measures in place to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety and well-being of all their animals. Lily and Margot’s journey from escape to rescue has captured the attention of many, highlighting the bond between animals and their caretakers.
