Yellowstone Voices, a Montana-based nonprofit focusing on wildlife conservation, will host an educational event titled “The Future of Yellowstone’s Wild Bison” on November 1, 2024, at the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman. The event, starting at 6:00 p.m., will discuss the challenges facing the park’s buffalo herds in terms of environment, culture, and ecology. Collaborating with wildlife advocacy partners, the evening aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Yellowstone’s bison population.
Attendees can engage with organizations at an opening reception starting at 5:30 p.m., where they can learn more about conservation efforts and enjoy refreshments. Speakers at the event will include former Yellowstone Senior Bison Biologist Rick Wallen and Rochelle Salois, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, among others. The keynote address will focus on the ecological impacts of bison habitats, while a video presentation will shed light on Yellowstone’s bison capture operations.
Following the presentations, a panel discussion will allow for audience questions and community dialogue on ways to safeguard the future of Yellowstone’s bison. This interactive session provides an opportunity for attendees to engage with experts and explore alternative management solutions that prioritize wildlife protection and environmental stewardship.
The event aims to educate the public on the realities of Yellowstone’s bison management practices and spark meaningful conversations about conservation strategies. Those interested in attending can contact Kaili Berg at kberg@indiancountrymedia.com for more information.
