Matthew Sweet, the singer-songwriter known for hits such as “Girlfriend” and “I’ve Been Waiting,” suffered a stroke while on tour in Toronto. His management company has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his recovery expenses as he is unable to perform and does not have insurance or touring income. Doctors in Toronto saved his life, but he needs to be flown back to the U.S. for specialized care and therapy, amounting to a total cost of close to a quarter of a million dollars. The fundraiser has already raised over $150,000 from about 2,700 donors, including celebrities like Judd Apatow, John Mayer, and Peter Buck. Matthew Sweet had to cancel shows with Hanson and his own headlining dates due to health issues, and his most recent album was released in 2021. His manager is confident in his determination and focus, believing it will help him in his recovery journey to good health. Matthew Sweet’s fans and supporters are urged to donate if possible to assist in his recovery process.
