In a key event during the match between Wolves and Liverpool, Bellegarde’s inswinging cross was slightly too high for Strand Larsen, resulting in a goal kick. Liverpool, however, seemed to be doing well, with Robertson flashing a dangerous cross that evaded Salah. Salah’s deflected cross also just missed Jota. The game started off slow, with Liverpool keeping possession and Wolves waiting to counter-attack. Alexander-Arnold received a yellow card for kicking the ball away. Bellegarde had a chance to score but his shot was easily saved by Alisson. The match started with Liverpool kicking off from left to right.
In the 3pm games, Cole Palmer scored four goals in the first half, Arsenal narrowly beat Leicester with an injury-time goal, and Everton came from behind to win their first league game of the season. Wolves made two changes, bringing in Toti and Santiago Bueno at centre-back. Alisson returned in goal for Liverpool, replacing Kelleher, and Jota replaced Nunez. The match at Molineux was in danger of being a relegation battle for Wolves, who had only one point from five games. It was a chance for Liverpool to potentially go top of the table and show their title race credentials. The kickoff was at 5.30 pm.
