Zonneveld, now 39, was motivated by a desire for his three daughters to live in a world free of the environmental consequences of burning oil, gas, and coal.
By focusing on green hydrogen production, Frames Group was able to carve out a niche in the rapidly growing clean energy market. This vision caught the attention of Plug Power, a clean energy company based in New York, which ultimately acquired Frames Group in 2021. Plug Power now aims to become a global leader in green hydrogen production, with a goal of producing over 1,000 tons per day of green hydrogen this decade.
Despite facing challenges such as stock market volatility and profitability issues, Plug Power has secured partnerships with major companies like Amazon for the use of clean hydrogen in their operations. With financial support from the Biden administration in the form of tax credits, Plug Power is expanding its clean hydrogen production capabilities through the construction of new facilities in various locations.
Zonneveld, now in a leadership position at Plug Power, continues to drive change in the clean energy sector, setting an example for his daughters and future generations. He hopes that his work in transitioning towards green hydrogen will contribute to a more sustainable future for his children and the planet as a whole.
